RADAR Protest at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner, April 30, 2008

On April 30, 2008, the New York Times’ editors and all the other bigwigs of the mainstream media will be coming for their annual White House Correspondent’s Dinner. President Bush is also expected to attend.

And guess who will be there to greet all those reporters, editors, and producers when they arrive??? A bunch of RADAR folks waving signs, asking why the New York Times to explain why it has repeatedly mis-reported the truth of domestic violence.

Come and be heard!

Location:

Washington Hilton
1919 Connecticut Ave., NW
Washington, DC 20009

Metro Access:

Take the Red Line to Dupont Circle. Exit out of the north entrance. Walk 1/2 mile. The Washington Hilton is on the right.

Time:

Meet near the front door of the main lobby of the Washington Hilton at 3:00 - 3:30pm. Look for persons wearing DV T-shirts.

The counter-protest will take place outside 4-8pm.

After the protest, interested persons will go for a light dinner.

Attire:

We strongly encourage persons to wear a T-shirt with an appropriate DV message, or other costume that conveys our message. One good source for domestic violence T-shirts is http://www.cafepress.com – go to http://www.cafepress.com/cp/browse/Ntt-domestic+violence+men_nr-1_N-20696960_Ntk-All_D-domestic+violence+men_Nao-1 to see a variety of T-shirts about DV against men. Most T-shirts cost $17.

Sign:

We also request persons to bring a large sign. Bright colors and visuals are effective. It is not necessary to post your sign on a stake or pole.

Your Message:

Feel free to be creative in coming up with your own message, which should be humorous or serious – but not accusatory or angry. Remember that humor is often the best way to convey a message. We are focusing our demonstration on the New York Times, but your message can target the media in general, if you prefer.

Sample messages:

"NYT: All the News That’s Politically Correct to Print"

"Male Victims of DV: Silenced by the Media"
